MPSG adds Second SMART Day, Increases Agronomic Extension Capacity

Carman, MB – June 22, 2018 – This summer, Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers (MPSG) is excited to offer its farmers an additional SMART Day field tour, increasing its capacity to provide Manitoba’s pulse and soybean farmers with the latest research and agronomic information.

These two dynamic tours will be hosted in partnership with the Westman Agricultural Diversification Organization (WADO) and the Prairies East Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (PESAI) on July 17 and 19 in Melita and Arborg, respectively.

Farmers and agronomists attending the full day in Melita on July 17 will learn more about WADO’s most recent intercropping research questions and be brought up to speed on MPSG-funded research projects that have recently wrapped-up.

Soybean seed quality will be discussed. Seeding depth questions from this spring will be answered. Research on soybean inoculants and fungicides in peas will be covered.

Two days later, will host a half-day tour in Arborg with PESAI on July 19. Soybean seed quality and seeding depth with be examined here, as well, with an Interlake perspective. Crop-water use will be discussed as part of a tour of PESAI’s tile-drained land. Canola and flax research will be highlighted, too.

We hope you’re as excited as we are for these dynamic field tours.
