Manitoba Pulse Growers Association Elects New Board Members and sets a new Vision and Mission

Carman, MB (March 4, 2011) – Manitoba Pulse Growers Association (MPGA) elected 6 members to
its Board of Directors at their Annual General Meeting on February 10th held at the Winnipeg
Convention Centre.

Andrew Saramaga will serve as MPGA’s Chair for a second consecutive year. Saramaga operates a
grain and oilseed farm near Hazelridge, MB. As chair, Saramaga will work with and assist staff and
directors in providing support to Manitoba’s pulse growers.

“We are excited to have Andrew on again as our chair for 2011,” said MPGA Executive Director
Roxanne Lewko. “His many years on the board will prove to be a valuable resource as MPGA moves
ahead in 2011.”

The following additional directors were elected to the board in 2011:

  • Andrew Knowles – St. Andrews, MB – 3 year term
  • Jason Voth – Altona, MB – 2 year term
  • Joni Sawatzky – Altona, MB – 2 year term
  • Murray Chorney – Selkirk, MB – 3 year term
  • Randy Froese – Winkler, MB – 3 year term
  • Rick Vaags – Dugald, MB – 2 year term

Preceding the Annual General Meeting, MPGA directors met in December to complete a strategic
planning session. Two days were spent evaluating the past 25 years and setting the path as we
move forward into the next 25 years.

From that meeting the board of directors updated the current Mission Statement and created a
Vision for the association. Additional communication to members was brought forward as an
added focus area.

Vision Statement: Vibrant profitable farms sustainability producing a variety of quality
pulse crops to feed a healthy growing world.

Mission Statement: To provide Manitoba pulse grower members with production
knowledge and market development support, through focused research, advocacy and
linkages with industry partners.
