Research Objectives

This study will identify new field pea cultivars with resistance to Ascochyta blight in their leaves, stems and/or pods and will determine the effectiveness of different types of tissue-specific resistance in reducing yield losses caused by this disease.

Project Description

Newly registered field pea cultivars will be assessed for their reactions and yield response to Ascochyta blight. Field pea cultivars with tissue-specific resistance in their leaves, stems and/or pods will be identified. The value of different forms of tissue-specific resistance in preventing or reducing yield losses caused by Ascochyta blight will be determined by comparing the yields of inoculated and fungicide-protected plots of each of the newly registered field pea cultivars. Information from this study will assist growers in selecting field pea cultivars that are partially resistant to Ascochyta blight, which will suffer reduced yield losses caused by this disease.
